About: Orange County Inland Empire SBDC Regional Network, Lead Center
Since April 2003 California State University, Fullerton has been the host for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network servicing the Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. The SBDC program is the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) most extensive economic development program, helping small businesses create jobs and strengthen local economies. The Lead Center holds the contract with the SBA and contracts with eight educational and community development organizations to deliver services that help small business owners start, grow, and succeed.

This competitive internship will broaden your understanding in the areas of business development, entrepreneurship, marketing, public relations, communications, and politics. Under the direction of the Interim Marketing Manager, assistants participate in: marketing collateral development, website design and maintenance, social media marketing, strategic partnership development and management, strategic outreach to State and Federal legislators, and continuous marketing management of eight service centers throughout the tri-county area.
Essential Duties
Under the supervision of the Marketing Coordinator, create a variety of print and digital projects including: signage, web and print advertisements, printed collateral, and promotional materials
Event planning and promotion across Network
Update and maintain the website and social media channels regularly with events, information and news regarding the program or services.
Providing constructive feedback and improvements to existing SBDC collateral material design and content.
Assure all service center locations comply with Small Business Administration (SBA) and SBDC marketing guidelines.
Working closely with the Marketing Manager and Marketing Specialist on implementing strategic marketing and PR campaigns.
Develop and maintain regional digital, print and social media outreach and advertising campaigns.
Write, edit, post, and promote content for website’s blog
Maintain marketing client databases and leads on multiple platforms (e.g. email, social, and websites).
Upkeep marketing calendar of events, programs and service launches in conjunction with the Marketing Manager.
Promotes an inclusive environment of teamwork and leads to ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is practiced/applied in department operations, programs and services.
OTHER DUTIES:
Provides backup support for other staff as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Major of interest in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field
Comfortable with WordPress or similar web content management platform
Constant Contact or similar email marketing platform
Copywriting experience – particularly in writing blog posts
Thorough working knowledge of social media platforms, surveys, and online advertising mediums.
Working knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software applicable to area of assignment, specifically Microsoft Office
Experience using Canva – a plus
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) – plus
Strong attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks and adjust to changing priorities
Ability to follow direction and adhere to brand style guidelines
Ability to troubleshoot and provide creative solutions to obstacles
Ability to understand and apply current trends in marketing, advertising, social media, and web
Ability to be creative, deadline and detail orientated, a self-starter, able to take initiative, and take ownership of assigned work projects
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including a command of grammar, usage and vocabulary.
Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
Ability to think critically, problem-solve and work independently.
Prior experience working with the small business community – a plus
Experience managing marketing campaigns – a plus
Working knowledge of Spanish – a plus
Ability to promote and prioritize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ( DEI)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
