Girls Inc. of Chicago, incorporated in November 2016, is the newest affiliate of Girls Inc., joining 350 chapters across the United States and Canada with the shared mission to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold. Girls Inc. of Chicago now serves 800 Kindergarten – 12th grade girls at seven sites across the city.

Position Overview

Girls Inc. of Chicago is seeking a dynamic fundraising professional who recognizes today’s economic, civic and public health uncertainties while remaining steadfast in their belief in Chicago girls’ potential and power. The Sr. Communications and Social Media Associate is a multi-talented individual with proficiency in communications and social media as well as a high aptitude for learning. This role reports into the Manager of Development and Communications with a dotted line to organizations leadership team (CEO and Directors of Program and Finance/Operations).

The successful candidate will be a hands-on and highly productive individual who will execute a multitude of efforts with communications as the key responsibility while contributing to these very important operational areas: event planning and management and development.

Primary Responsibilities

Social Media (35%)

Executing company social media advertising campaigns.
Formulating high-quality novel written and visual content for each social media campaign.
Enhancing a social media presence by maintaining a solid online presence.
Monitoring the Girls Inc. of Chicago brand on social media.
Building brand awareness by engaging relevant influencers.
Managing our online communities to ensure respectful and appropriate engagement.
Responding to comments on each of our accounts.
Overseeing customer service provided via social media.
Analyzing data to determine whether social media campaigns have achieved their objectives.
Coaching employees on content creation best practices.
Visit Girls Inc. of Chicago sites to obtain relevant content for social media.

Communications (25%)

Research and create presentations and proposals for potential donors, board member engagement and fund-raising activities. Create marketing and promotional materials, for social media and email campaigns (both print and electronic).
Copyedit, proofread, and revise communications for leadership team. Gather content and create design for newsletters.
Create and deliver press releases and media relations content. Create executive bios and speaking proposals.
Prepare correspondence and donor acknowledgement letters. Prepare presentations, meeting agendas, and meeting
Foundation & Corporate Relations and Grants Management: (25%)

Support the building of a database of prospective funders and mission-aligned grantmaking organizations.
Support he organization’s comprehensive grant application process, including research, submitting LOIs and full proposals, and timely submission of annual and periodic reports, with the aim of submitting at least 20 proposals annually; collaborate with internal staff as applicable.
Support with the DonorPerfect database.
Support contributions and timely gift acknowledgments.
Support development/communications department logistics.

Individual Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: (15%)

Support the preparing of bimonthly reports for the Board of Directors, including fundraising status updates, requested action items, and additional metrics as requested.
Support in preparing for donor meetings, including comprehensive donor research and collaboration with program staff, as applicable.
Provide onsite support for fund raising events.

Other:

Maintain a curious stance; regularly research prospective individual, corporate, foundation and public official supporters and consistently engage in proactive outreach and relationship building.
Regularly participate in site-based programming to promote positive peer relationships and build an authentic understanding of the Girls Inc. of Chicago program and impact.
Actively participate in professional development and ongoing learning; stay abreast of and share developing trends and current events that impact this work.

Skills & Experience

Required

3+ years demonstrated success in nonprofit communications, social media and/or a related role
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work/educational experience.
Excellent attention to detail
Top tier written and verbal communications skills
Superb interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Comfort toggling between taking initiative, taking direction, and collaborating as a team, as the situation demands

Highly Preferred

Experience in a fast-growing, young organization
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and/or other design software
Demonstrated success in nonprofit organization
Familiarity with DonorPerfect or similar fundraising software
Previous experience in a supervisory role
Experience living and/or working in an historically under-resourced community
